CARDIFF UNIVERSITY (SCHOOL OF MODERN LANGUAGES) AND DALIAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (SCHOOL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES) PROGRESSION AGREEMENT

PROGRESSION AGREEMENT

 

Cardiff and DUT wish to establish a long-term collaborative relationship to promote cooperation within higher education and to enhance the opportunities available to students.  The parties have agreed to establish a route for progression of students from academic programmes of DUT to degree-level programmes at Cardiff.  The purpose of this Agreement is to set out the basis on which Cardiff will recognise students who successfully complete certain programmes at DUT as eligible to enter certain University programmes.

Schedule 1

The programmes

 

4+1 PGT Programme

 

DUT Programme

Cardiff University School of Modern Languages  Programme and level of entry

DUT students study one of the following 4 year DUT Bachelors degree programmes

· BA Business English

· BA Linguistics and Literature

· BA Translation and Interpreting

 

DUT students are required to successfully complete one of the eligible DUT Bachelors degree programmes with a minimum overall average of 2:1 or above (equivalent of 75% or above). DUT students who meet these academic entry requirements will be considered for progression to the below programmes

 

· MA Translation

· MA Global Cultures

 

 

1+1+1 PGT Programme

 

DUT Programme

Cardiff University School of Modern Languages  Programme and level of entry

DUT students study the first year of the following DUT Masters degree programme

· MA Translation and Interpreting

· MA English Language and Literature

· MA Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics

Students who achieve a relevant DUT undergraduate degree with an average mark of 75% or above overall, and who achieve an overall average mark of 75% for Year 1 of their Masters studies at DUT, can progress to the MA programme listed below:

 

· MA Translation

· MA Global Cultures

 

On successful completion of the Cardiff University Masters programme, DUT students will return to DUT to complete the third and final year of their Masters study in order to achieve the DUT Masters degree.

 

 

Schedule 2

English language requirements

While all students must at least meet Cardiff’s minimum English language requirements, specific English Language entry requirements vary between undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Cardiff and may also be changed from time to time. Students applying to study for the Cardiff programmes under this agreement will be treated equitably with applicants applying for these programmes through all other routes, agreements and mechanisms.  

 

All applicants whose first language is not English are expected to have reached a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with no sub-score less than 5.5). 

 

Alternatively:

 

Students with an IELTS for UK Visas & Immigration* (academic test) score of 5.0 overall (with a sub-score of 5.0 in Writing, 4.5 in Speaking and all other sub-scores at 4.0 or higher) can apply for a 20 week pre-sessional English Language Programme at Cardiff University, (subject to the availability of places). Students who successfully complete this programme will not be required to re-sit IELTS and achieve 6.5.

 

Students with an IELTS for UK Visas & Immigration* (academic test) score of 5.5 can apply (subject to the availability of places) for a 12 weeks pre-sessional English Language Programme at Cardiff University.  Students who successfully complete this programme will not be required to re-sit IELTS and achieve 6.5.

 

Students with an IELTS for UK Visas & Immigration* (academic test) score of 6.0 can apply (subject to the availability of places) for an 8 weeks pre-sessional English Language Programme at Cardiff University.  Students who successfully complete this programme will not be required to re-sit IELTS and achieve 6.5.

 

* ‘IELTS for UK Visas & Immigration’ is the test needed for entry to on-campus pre-sessional programmes (academic version) at Cardiff University.

 

Schedule 3

Financial arrangements

 

For DUT students studying for the CU academic programmes as listed in Schedule 1, CU agrees to offer a 20% reduction on the overseas tuition fee for each student.

 

Students who have enrolled at CU have the option of paying their tuition fees in three instalments, at set dates, throughout the academic year.

 

These financial arrangements are subject to review by CU, and will be reviewed annually during the term of this Agreement. CU reserves the right to revise these financial arrangements during the term of this Agreement and will inform DUT in writing in advance of any change to this Schedule.
